Great new edition of a classic

I have used Critical Encounters for the last 10 years; it has totally transformed my approach to teaching literature. Unlike other "new"editions, this one actually has a lot of great new material, especially around non-fiction. Deborah Appleman is a great writer and obviously someone who knows her way around a high school classroom. I highly recommend this book!

Outstandingly Useful!!!

A terrific book that not only teaches you how to apply literary theory in the classroom, but also gives you a wealth of activities to use. I've been amazed at how responsive my students have been to the activities in the book. Still have a lot more to try. Just what a high school or middle school teachers needs.
